mmmm... i sort of like this idea. you know when floppy became a standard for
backup media? well, i think the cdrom is well established as well and could be
done the same way! most are bootable as well. i'm sure anyone that can boot
the mandrake 7.0 cdrom would be able to use this.

By the way, win98 rescue disk is essentially "read-only"! If you have the
notch in the write protect position!

So essentially, you have a nice idea, of which, i think is long over due but
hindered because some people didn't have a bootable cd-rom about a year or 2
ago.

I have an ls120 drive, of which, doesn't have full kernel support yet for a
rescue disk making....mmmmm....i know i should have one as well. buying
another 3 1/2 disk drive takes another irq, so is'nt the solution to my
problem. (guess i hafta kernel patch it sometime).

But this would solve the problem of disk space. example: could burn your own
cd-r of all the modules needed by your system and including system
configuration settings for network etc.... of course the latter maybe
stretching it allittle because most would start "browsing" with netscape....lol.
But having the basic essentials as the win98 rescue disk does is possible from
what i see and probabley has already been done! just not published!!
