For that matter, why are we still using the 2.2 kernels in Cooker? How
likely is it that the next Mandrake release will be out before kernel
2.4?

what i want is a straight answer on what are the differences between a
Linus version of say
2.4.0-test4 source and the mandrake (hackkernel) version. Any hope of a
Patchdrake to pick up
the "special' things. IMHO i think doing a patch would be a great idea
for the handcraft folks.
any idea if there is a version.c file in the source somewhere would love
to be able to make a version stamper thing
for my kernel util.
oh btw trying to make the version.h file works about as good as trying
to use the win.ini file
