Is the USB starting? There must be a module "printer" in the output of
"lsmod". Check /etc/sysconf/usb. It must contain the line

   PRINTER=yes

If this is not the case enter the line and restart at first the USB
services and then the CUPS daemon:

   /etc/rc.d/init.d/usb restart
   /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups restart

Now it should work. Tell me if nor.
