I don't know if this can help but on my SMP I've DK440LX with crystal chipset 
onboard, and only from cooker versions with 2.2.17-17mdksmp kernel  is 
recognized and configurable with 'sndconfig' and it works  as cs4232 .... you 
can try last cooker ...;o) 
(windows give too generic infos on chipset and it plays with PNP... also for 
me inusable before)
This is extract from my /etc/modules.conf and as-is from sndconfig for me now 
is working ok...;o)
