Up until very recently I was running an IDE Mitsumi 2801 on Mandrake 7.1. I
had to recompile the kernel with SCSI emulation support, which wasn't too
difficult.

I used XCDROAST to write CD's. I don't think I had a single coaster out of
over 100 burns (unlike the windows coaster to success ratio).
