Thanks -- fdisk /mbr is a much less drastic approach (assuming it
works).

For the problems I had, I completed the reinstall, but sometimes, the
problem that existed before I did the reinstall reoccurred after the
install.  Don't remember any examples, but I could get rid of the
problem by fiddling with the partitions as described and then
reinstalling.  Maybe I was in the Twilight Zone, or at the Outer Limits?
