Ahhhh.  Now I see.  You are saying that the alsa driver does not
populate /proc/asound/dev if devfs is supported by the kernel.  I get
it now.  It would seem that mounting devfs (and therefore using
devfsd) is becoming a requirement, not an option (if you use the Alsa
drivers at least) anymore.
