I finally sorted it out. My motherboard only supports AGP v1, my TNT2
Vanta needs v2 or later. If I try to use AGPART, I get hangs. If I try
to use the nvidia card's internal driver, it gives up but still kicks up
an xserver without AGP.
However, the latest drivers now come with AGPART as the default, when
before it used to be "Try Card AGP, no AGP if it fails."
It's supposed to be "Try AGPART, then try card AGP driver then not AGP"
but the xserver seems to hang if it looks for AGPART.
A little hacking in the XConfig-4 file, and Bob's you're aunty.
