Nope. Upgraded to devfsd-1.3.23-4mdk from the cooker. Added the append line back into /etc/lilo.conf and re-ran lilo. /dev/hdc4 does not exist, nor does it recreate itself when referenced. (And I have a disk in the drive.) Oh well....
