Actually, that happens here, too. The regular XEmacs has the box that 
comes up fine but you can't type in it. The GTK and GNOME versions the 
box comes up but flashes and then you have to use xkill, or something 
appropriate like that. There seems to be other issues besides just the 
search box though. I say if there is no fix, drop down to a stable 
version where JDE works for me.
