I don't have knowledge for quickcam express, but for the archos, all is fine: 
plugging the archos make the usb-storage to be loaded, and it is done in your 
log, you can see the hard disk toshiba.
next level to get it working is to load the sg driver, IIRC, to have access 
to /dev/sda*
