I gave this info (plus X log, which shows DRI mismatch for this driver)
for a desktop Radeon 7500 last week sometime which shows the same
behaviour. Installing the RH 7.3 XFree86-4.2 (and some hacking) makes it
work with GLX with the Mandrake linus kernel, but not the default
kernel. Knoppix 3.1 works out the box with 1000FPS glxgears.
