Why strange? Any internal IP (192.168/16 or 10/8 or one of the 172
class Bs) is "normal". So, MS uses 192.168.0/24 by default.

The convention is to set the client machines by DHCP, which should be set
up and assigning addresses on 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 and supplying
192.168.1.1 as gateway address.

You may have to reboot or release/renew your IPs on the windows boxen
(rebooting win9x is never a bad idea ;-)).
