As a matter of fact the initial  install  should  not  allow  people  to
select another partition but / for /root. I consider this a bug.

As to answer your question: if you boot with ``linux  init=/bin/sh''  in
case of problems with your system, only / gets mounted. Work around your
idea and make backups. ls /etc/cron.weekly
