Well, I don't think that will help since the rescue kernel boots with 2.4.21-0.11mdkBOOT. The installed kernel is 2.4.21-0.11mdk. It will complain "can't open /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.11mdkBOOT/modules.dep for writing". That's obvious since I only have /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.11mdk. Something is corrupted somewhere but still dunno what :( I also did try re-install w/ reiserfs (instead of ext3). It will continue to boot using grub with -o notail option but then it will hangs at "The BackSpace sends key: ^?". The weird thing though if I install on vmware, it works fine. Thanks for the tip aw. -Larry
