Coconut meat can be either ground, grated or shredded.

Desiccated coconut is dried, unsweetened finely-grated coconut.

If flaked or shredded coconut are used in recipes for desiccated coconut but they must be the unsweetened type.

Generally speaking, shredded coconut products available may contain up to 19% moisture while dessicated coconut will not contain more than 3% moisture.

it asked for

3/4 pound (scant 2 1/2 cups) sweetened desiccated or flaked coconut not shredded
