Coconut meat can be either ground, grated or shredded.
Desiccated coconut is dried, unsweetened finely-grated coconut.
If flaked or shredded coconut are used in recipes for desiccated coconut but
they must be the unsweetened type.
Generally speaking, shredded coconut products available may contain up to
19% moisture while dessicated coconut will not contain more than 3%
moisture.

Subject: [CnD] types of coconut
I ran across a recipe that asked for type of coconut I had never heard of,
so wondering if anyone might have heard of this and could explain the
difference between the types
Thanks
Dee
The recipe was Chocolate dipped coconut macaroons
it asked for
3/4 pound (scant 2 1/2 cups) sweetened desiccated or flaked coconut not
shredded
