Coconut meat can be either ground, grated or shredded. Desiccated coconut is dried, unsweetened finely-grated coconut. If flaked or shredded coconut are used in recipes for desiccated coconut but they must be the unsweetened type. Generally speaking, shredded coconut products available may contain up to 19% moisture while dessicated coconut will not contain more than 3% moisture. ----- Original Message ----- From: "leverenz" <[email protected]> To: "c n d" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 11, 2009 8:49 PM Subject: [CnD] types of coconut >I ran across a recipe that asked for type of coconut I had never heard of, >so wondering if anyone might have heard of this and could explain the >difference between the types > Thanks > Dee > The recipe was Chocolate dipped coconut macaroons > > it asked for > > 3/4 pound (scant 2 1/2 cups) sweetened desiccated or flaked coconut not > shredded > > Scanned by the Barracuda Spam Firewall at CPWS Broadband > _______________________________________________ > Cookinginthedark mailing list > [email protected] > http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark > _______________________________________________ Cookinginthedark mailing list [email protected] http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark _______________________________________________ Cookinginthedark mailing list [email protected] http://acbradio.org/mailman/listinfo/cookinginthedark
