Twitter complement/alternate: There is also identi.ca, the Canda- and OSS-based alternative. It's easy to set up groups in identi.ca.
μblogging is not about persistence, is it? This is what we have the CMS for, isn't it? I consider Twitter (and its ilk) to be a bit of stream of consciousness (ideas, links, allusions, illusions?, etc.). Like thoughts that enter my mind and then leave.
