MR 3 of JSR 206 (or JAXP 1.6 as it was called) in late 2013 announced its end as a standalone technology. Going forward then the proposal is that it be subsumed into the platform. Given the pluggability then it shouldn't impact those deploy with service providers implementations, it's really only an issue for those that were replacing the API classes via the endorsed standards override mechanism. The need to do the latter has diminished significantly in the recent years.
