So, if you want to know if you are in the right major, you are in the
right place communicating. If you want to study comparative religion,
social sciences, etcetera, do that. However, it is also possible that
you can learn these kinds of things if you recognize the deepest senses
of what is written in English literature, which is built upon so much
of free thinking culture. It is strange to me that one who is not a
mathematician prefers knowlege to people, and ideas more than being
articulate, but if that is true of you perhaps you are right about the
dichotomy. You will be good at whatever you are interested in, if you
devote enough time to learning. In fact, probably it is better for you
to become fluent to a near native proficiency in the language you would
like to study within. This could mean studying literature that is
classical, contemporary, critical, philosophical, theoretical,
integral, etc., as the list goes on, or not studying English lit. at
all. Maybe comparative or world literature would be more interesting
then. Also, I disagree specifically because people with communication
talents may be more visible, but not necessarily more sucessful. The
brightest ideas will have to be rendered intelligibly anyway to achieve
successes.
