For any listers who live in County Tyrone, the following may be of interest.
Donaghmore Historical Society's February meeting will cover Dungannon Workhouse.

Beritie Foley will provide details about life in the locality during one of the
most tragic periods in Irish history. Workhouses were introduced to Ireland
following the passing of the Poor Laws Act for Ireland in 1838. Tens of
thousands of people were languishing in extreme poverty and it was hoped
theworkhouses would solve this. Bertie will examine Dungannon Workhouse from
its foundation in 1842 until its closure in 1948, with a particular interest in
pressures during the famine. He will also look at the cramped conditions and
running costs.
The Dungannon Poor Law Union covered a wide area, stretching from Altmore to
Coalisland and from Newmills to Moy. Hundreds of people died in Dungannon
Workhouse and many were buried on its grounds.
Talk takes  place in Donaghmore Heritage Centre on Monday 11th February 2019 at
8pm.
