On a cold winter's day I had some trouble starting my coupe and may have overprimed it. I noticed a smell from the engine and going forward say smoke coming from the air filter. I went and got my fire extinguisher but by the time I retrieved it the smoke had stopped. a 2" circle in the air filter was melted. I removed the filter and an getting a replacement. My questions are: 1) If the plane starts is it OK to fly? 2) My mechanic is at a field 15' from my home field - is it safe to fly the plane to him? 3) Or if the engine starts do I really need to do anything?
