I think you can make it.  I would start it for just a short time and see
how
it does and then get on with it if you aren't spewing forth much oil.    I
doubt that you will loose much oil.  The way that works is that there is a
seal (exactly like the one on the front of the engine, but smaller) around
the gear shaft down towards the bottom of the tach shaft housing.  The
only
problem I would see is that the shaft is hollow and I can't remember if it
is hollow all the way through the gear (it is just an extension on the oil
pump gear) but it really wouldn't make much difference because the other
end
of that shaft/gear is simply open to the crankcase, and is not up against
any pressure oil.  Perhaps you could take a small round bottle cap and
tape
it over the end of the tach drive with duct tape.  This would keep out any
seepage as long as there is no pressure to that area.  Glen Ward
