To anyone who might have an interest in preserving our military aircraft..... I received this from one of the EAA Warbirds Squadron Commanders. Just thought I'd pass it on. ************************************************************************** **** ************************************************************************** **** ******************************************** I have learned, from the Naval museum at Pensacola, that to get a surplus military aircraft (in this case a T-33) for museum display from, Davis Monthan AFB, can be quite costly. Just to get it from where it sits to the front gate costs about $51,000. Then of course the museum must pay to have it trucked to where ever it is going. Just think, our equipment is being held ransom by the civilian contractors that the USAF, in it's infinite wisdom, has hired to handle the bones of our great flying machines. Now in all fairness the civilians aren't entirely to blame. OSHA, and the Environmental Protection Agency have put such heavy restrictions on those at DM that they do have to perform such vital inspections as: check the iridium dials on the instruments for excess radio activity, perhaps some lead paint, could we have asbestos in our wires, and I'm sure many other equally important items. Bottom line is no one can afford to get these aircraft out of the bone yard. Result, no more patriotic symbols of our great nations air arm on display in small towns and museums that don't have some already, etc. So what to do? I would encourage each of you to write your senators and congressman and protest this and get it changed NOW!! If you will write and forward this to the guys in your address book, they will get an avalanche of mail and emails. And since the White House is finally cleaned up, I think we can get this fixed. __________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list please send mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ____________________________________________________________ T O P I C A -- Learn More.
