Jimi, they didn't do that kind of testing back then. When they did do so,
at was more marketing than aerodynamics. Pilot technique and
density altitude are BIG factors in Ercoupes. So stick to big runways
and learn for yourself what you can and cannot do, while always being
careful not to get slow and mushy unless you have a way out.

Technique can make a 3 or 4 to 1 difference in takeoff and landing
distance
with these little critters.

Remember that while you have brakes, even Cleveland brakes won't let
you stop as hard as you can in a 172 or PA28 (the plane just skids) so
don't try and land halfway down an 1800 foot runway and hope you can
stop.

Stick with runways that are better than 2000 feet a sea level until you
have
a few hours in the thing and are consistently getting it down on half of
that
or so.

On a hot day, make sure you have a clear area to climb through, and
use mountain flying techniques. That is, plan to steer around obstacles
if you need to. Don't get boxed in. It's not all that bad, but you need to
understand that fully loaded on a hot day you will have well under 500FPM
climb, and that will come at a relatively high airspeed. So don't go
mushing
into the trees or a hill.

You're venturing into 1940's flying, where you're more responsible for
learning
your plane by doing than be looking it up in a POH.
