Ken.
It has been some time since I replaced the windows in my first
coupe. The actual removal from the plane is quite simple, as you my
know. There's a small plate at the center top of the window track just
above the windshield. Once this is removed, the window is slid up and
the front of the window is started out through the opening. Once it
starts to come out, the window can be pulled out of the rear track. This
my sound complex but only takes about 15 seconds to remove the window. I
used 1/16" Lexan from a plastics shop. It is nearly indestructable and
virtually unbreakable. It does scratch fairly easily though, and care
must be taken to only rub it with a wet or waxy cloth. If I remember, I
drilled out the rivets on the top and bottom stiffeners, and used the
old window as a patern to drill new holes in the Lexan, slightly larger
than the rivets or bolts used on assembly. I think on C-FBMJ the Lexan
is bolted to the end plates with stainless bolts and acorn nuts. Make
sure the ends of the stiffeners are slightly rounded so they don't catch
on the window channel as they slide down. Just start the window in the
rear channel and the front slot and work the window down until it is
completely in the track. Slide it up and down several times to see that
all's well, and you're done. Don't bolt or rivet too tightly or you will
get cracks in your window. Really it's not as complex as it sounds.

PS Take the old window with you and let the plastics shop cut the
right size for you. Also, only remove enough of the protective paper,
that comes on the Lexan, to get the end stiffeners on and an inch or so
on the sides to clear the front and rear channels. This way nothing gets
scratched. Remove the main amount of the covering when the job is done.
