Lloyd; I don't think there is any RPM range you need to avoid, except zero >grin<. What static RPM do you turn with that 71/40 prop? My fresh overhaul C85 gets 2250 with a 71/50, so I would think that a 71/40 would tend to be a little on the high side? Climbs like a homesick angel though, eh?
