Bill, I just went thru this last month and it wasn't a big deal. I took 2
steel bars 1/2"x1 1/2"x 6" long.
drill 2 5/16" hole thru the 1 1/2" diminsion. the distance between the
holes enough to clear the spacer washer width. A couple of 5/16" threaded
rods with nuts. each bar positioned in the forked ends of the strut. clamp
the bottom bar in a vice to hold the entire assembly and snug down the
threaded rod nuts till the snap ring slot is visible thru the upper hole
and work the snap ring in place. hope this makes some sense to you.

I am replacing the rubber compression disc on the main strut and would
appreciate any advice from those who have had this experience. How do you
compress the shock sufficiently to install the retaining clip? Is there a
special tool for reinstalling the retaining clip?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
