Geez, maybe you better go where I go to get my txp/encoder certified. For
fifty bucks they even adjusted the txp frequency. It's a VFR certification
process, so they didn't do pitot/static. But if they notice the altimeter
is a
hair off they just can't resist pulling the screwdriver out of the pocket
and
tweaking it. 'You don't mind, do you?' they ask. 'Hell no!'

Well, you could pick up a TXP code on the ground via cell-phone. I suppose
if there was demand, they'd come up with a portable or semi-portable
transponder
just like they've done with voice radios.

Righto. I think a number of people have trivialized that, but you hear
Mayor
Giuliani saying 'come to Broadway, come to the ball-games, go out to
eat, go shopping, get on with life!' as a clear message. That's a MAJOR
part of fighting back.

That about says it. What will it do to the US economy if a bunch of
dedicated
sport pilots take all of their assets, pack up, and move to Canada? I
don't
think those are the kind of people (or assets) the US wants to lose. A
number
of those people will be business owners who will shut down their US
businesses,
fire the employees, and go up and hire Canadians.

And don't put it past people to do that. Americans freely relocate for
quality-of-life.
Just ask all those folks who are moving to Georgia and the Carolinas. In
Canada,
you can fly freely, AND you can maintain your own aircraft. You probably
can
find yourself a piece of land and have your own strip if you like.
American
dollars
(for now) go a long way. The people are nice to you.

And don't say 'why would you move if this thing only lasts another month?'

Because
if we end up with even 20% fewer FBOs and airports and flight schools as a

result,
it may be that the 'quality of flying life' is gone. Maybe some of those
BUSINESSES
will move North. Maybe Canada will become the new world-leader in
flight-training,
and will see 'Embry Riddle Vancouver Campus', not Florida, and 'American
Flyers
Saskatoon SK' not Morristown, NJ.
