Last Friday I hit a pothole on the side of the taxiway at my grass strip airport. The nose gear bottomed out (thank God there was not a prop strike of any sort) when I hit the hole. Anyway, when the nose gear bottomed out, it sheared a lube nipple (I think)that threads through the lower bearing sleeve into the inner lower bearing of the nose gear. (I am getting my parts terminology from the old orange covered Ercoupe Parts Manual from Univair, page 20, figure 15 Electrol Nose Gear.) The sheering caused some tear damage to the lower bearing sleeve and hogged out the threads on the inner sleeve so cannot thread in a new nipple to keep them joined any longer. A new lube nipple I got from Univair will not thread tightly into the sleeve since the holes are stripped out. Anyway, the A&P strongly recommends I get new sleeves. Univair says the Lower bearing sleeve (part # 415-34326) is no longer available. Any hints, help, encouragement, laughter????? Also, does anyone have the history on this "Electrol nose gear" and why the differences with the other nose gear listed in the parts catalog? I am sure that since it is different, it is going to cost me through the nose.
