Had the most fantastic experience Saturday. Just got the Coupe out of
annual, and as I've sold it and have to deliver it to Phoenix in two
weeks, I decided to go for a ride. Headed south to Richfield in Central
Utah. We'd just installed the new prop, and I must say it works fine.
Anyway, I landed at Richfield, and they gave me the courtesy car so that
I could go out for lunch. Back to the field, I stayed at the FBO for a
while and listened to BYU stomp the living crap out of Tulane. It was
about 90 degrees. 6000 ft. strip at 5300 MSL. Taxied to runway 1,
turned and took off. Figured I'd have a slow climb out, but it really
took off without any problems. There's a small mountain range that runs
west of Richfield, and doesn't end for about 75 miles. Goes due North,
just the way I was going, so I flew over the west side, all the way
North. Anyway, I just kept climbing. Couldn't keep that baby down. I
was running half throttle, pushing the nose down, turning 2400 rpm, and
didn't stop climbing until I was at 10,500 ft. Couldn't believe 50
miles of thermals. Indicated speed was near 120 for the entire
distance. Didn't have my GPS with me, so I don't know what I was really
doing. Sometimes, folks, it just don't get any better than this.
