Good morning Folks!

I recently had an occurrence that could stand some discussion.

While installing the transducer for a fuel totalizer, all the fuel
was drained from my header tank. the transducer was installed at
the output of the gascolater mounted on a simple bracket; now mind
you, this is an Alon with the gascolator mounted on the firewall,
slightly above the input to the carburetor. the gascolator glass
was still full, and fuel was added to the header tank upon the
completion of the installation. I was in a hurry to taxi the
airplane back to the hangar, so I started it up, called for taxi
clearance, and began to taxi. I got about half way across the
main North/South runway when the engine quit! I rolled off the
runway edge, past the hold short line, and sat there for a
second. I attempted a re-start and it started right up, ran for
about a minute and a half and shut down again. My newly installed
fuel totalizer indicated NO fuel flow. This phenomenon was
repeatable ad infinitum. I could start it up, ran for a minute
and a half, shut down, wait 30 seconds and repeat. The mechanic
and I both agreed that and air bubble existed somewhere in the
fuel line between the gascolator, and the carb. This proved to be
true, we bled the line and air did escape, followed by fuel flow.
After bleeding, all ops are normal with .7 gph showing at 800 rpm,
and 1.1 gph fuel flow at 1000 RPM.

The Scenario::

Fuel stop, refuel, top off airplane tanks, empty pilots tanks,
jump back in airplane ready to fly.
Taxi out, on the way down the taxiway the engine stops! OOps, we
forgot to open the header tank fuel valve. open the valve,
re-start, do our runup, and take off.
Here we are Nose High, making full power, 350 up and over the
trees at the end of the runway, and the engine STOPS!
Is this what is happening to some of our Coupers?
Let me know.
