Events like this really bring into focus the dangers of the fast multi even to high time pilots. About a month ago, I got to fly in (and fly) a Beech Duke. Very impressive machine. Power and pressure. You can have a normal conversation across the front office with no headphones. Leather everywhere. I was so far behind the bugger, I think my brain was still in position and hold by the time we got once around the pattern. The owner/pilot is a VERY capable airline captain who was nonetheless quite busy with the bird. While making it look easy. As I stepped down (WAY down) from the Duke, I reflected on what a remarkable traveling machine it was. I also reflected upon the professional and financial demands it made on its owner, versus what it gave back. And I was quite happy to get back to my Ercoupe. MInd you, I'll accept another Duke ride anytime one is offered...
