----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- With no spinner I had engine trouble of a loss of 400 rpm varible from 2100 down to 1700 and below after 25 minutes of operation climbing to 2500 feet OAT of about 14 degrees. Carb heat did not effect the problem nor changing mags. Oil temp was 175 to 180. Upon decreasing rpm to about 2000 with throttle the problem smoothed out. Landed and let the engine cool about 30 minutes then flew about 15 more minutes to destination. I had never had the engine sputter with the spinner on in about 150 hours of operation. I flew the Coupe back to the mech and on the way at same OAT and 25 minutes of operation the same event occured with same oil temp. I landed and let the engine cool again. Flew on 15 minutes to final destination. I put the spinner back on with a new back plate and the oil temp only went up to 150 in same OAT after 35 minutes of cruise and climb. One mech says it was a stuck valve due to high temp not related to the spinner, another says the stuck valve was due exclusively to the lack of a spinner and fouled up airflow over the cylinders increasing oil temp to higher than indicated. Coupe has the fiberglass bowl. Anyone had experience with a stuck cyl at 175 oil temp then have it smooth out after decent and cooling period? Would the best bet be to pull all of the heads and have a look at the valve guides? Thanks ED ==^================================================================
