I don't wish to start a political firestorm here, BUT... I fly the west
all
the time and many of us who fly in areas that are short on humans and long
on critters, carry a gun. BTW it is required by law in Alaska.

A couple of weeks ago, I had left my bike over on the other lot where I am
building a new hangar and didn't want to leave it unattended overnight. I
jumped into the Blazer that I keep over there and left the hangar door
open
so I could simply buzz in when I returned on the bike. Not more than 5
minutes had elapsed when I returned and pulled in next to my wifes car and
popped down the kickstand. When I shut off the engine, I could hear air
hissing out of the rear tire. I thought s__t. Then it stopped. Then it
started again. Then I thought HOLY S__T. I rolled off the bike on the
opposite side from the sound, and ran over to turn on the lights. Sure
enough, there by the rear tire of the bike was one hissed off snake. I
keep
bird shot in my .357 on the bedside table and ran into the apartment,
grabbed up the peice and raced back to the front of the hangar hoping the
thing hadn't slithered off under some of the tons of accumulated boxes
along
the edges of the hangar which would have worried me to death. Fortunately
s/he was quite accommodating and was still in the same spot. I got it on
the third shot. That's why I use bird shot. Can't hit a thing on the
first
shot. I have lived in snake country both here in NM and in CO for twenty
years and this is the only time I have ever heard a live rattlesnake.
S/he
was about 2-1/2 ft. long. Sometimes you have to decide which you like
less,
guns or dead.
