I'm sure the hardware store stuff worked well just to remove paint, but as
John said, the big deal is not how well it works, but how well it is
neutralized afterward.

I've heard horror stories of beautiful paint jobs, where the stripper just
kept on working down in all the cracks and crevices corroding away even
after the plane was painted.

Personally, if I have serious reservations about using Simple Green, I'm
going to be really careful about stripper!

(Especially if I might get caught with one!)
