Well, I can't ignore this wonky primer any longer.

The one I have has a red barrel, a 3-inch throw, and no brand name on
the knob. It just says 'Engine Primer.' It has a hex nut, not a knurled
one
on the packing nut. (In other words, I don't know what brand it is, but
by now maybe someone does.)

We'll skip why in the world a primer of this massive capacity is feeding a
Baby Continental. In good fettle, it might have saved the Titanic. I
suppose
that Erco got them for a good deal, USAAF surplus!

There are two O-rings on the end. Hard as rocks. Not a good sign. And it
seems to have packing, not an O-ring at the panel end. Is that right?

Okay, the point is, I'm having one heck of a time finding O-rings. I found
a couple that MIGHT work at the hardware store. They are currently sitting
in a bath of gasoline to see if they dissolve, or get sticky. I also found
some
Teflon-coated packing. I seem to recall that Teflon is fuel-proof. Am I
right here?

The auto parts stores have been a strike-out. Basically they go from the
point
of view of carb-rebuild kits, not individual *parts*. One did have an
O-ring box that
had sold out of the size that was required. I see that I can get a whole
new
primer for Aircraft Spruce for $150.00, but that seems a bit much to solve
a problem that is just ancient O-rings.

If there's anyone out there who recognizes this primer type and has a
definite source for the right size O-rings in the right material, you'd
have
my infernal gratitude if you could tape a couple to a piece of paper and
put them in the mail....
