Percy .
Happy Boxing Day to you and to all coupers.
Interesting to see your yearly costs. It got me thinking about what I
had spent in the last year on C-FBMJ. What follows is fairly close and
is changed from Canadian {dollarettes] to U.S. dollars.
Complete restoration, inspection, stripping and paint, New tires,
rebuild all three gears, sealing main tanks and about a million small
things including cleaning and painting engine and all accessories.
$2200.
I have my own hanger which is a tee with an extra 20 FT. on one end,
making the deep part 32' X 61' long. I can get my coupe, 55 Pontiac, 59
Simca, 69 Jag XKE, 20 old bicycles and a ton of junk in. I've worked it
out that I will also be able to get my 22' 5th wheel trailer in .
Anyway, I have lease on the land, taxes, and insurance to pay.
$1000.
I carry the basic liability and ploperty damage insurance required in
Canada.
$75.
To get insurance through the Canadian Owners and Pilots Assn.[COPA] I
pay a yearly fee to belong.
$30.
Oil is approximate.
$18.
Auto fuel, whish works every bit as well as 100LL at less than two
thirds the cost.
$150.
Total---$3473.00 U.S.
Hopefully in the upcoming year, the fixed costs [barring disaster of any
kind] should be about $1273.00 U.S.[Or $5,000,000.Canadian] or $106. per
month or $3.53 a day or just under .15 cents an hour, or about 1/15th
the cost of talking on Sprint long distance!! Which would you rather do,
talk on the phone for 10 cents a minute or fly for 1/4 cent a minute?
Times and costs may vary from plane to plane or in different time zones,
See your nearest wallet or cardit card for best value.
The one giant advantage that I have, living in Canada, is that I have
got my coupe on the quite new Owner Maintenance catagory. I am
responsible for all work or modifications on the plane. If I want to make
a biplane out if it, I just get out my tin snips and go to it. It has
truely made flying almost within reach of the average person. As we all
know, there will be some disasters. I can still have an aircraft
mechanic work on the plane if I feel the need, but can do my own annual
inspection and sign it off. During the resto of my coupe I found
numerous things that had not been spotted in many annuals, by
professionals. If you want to see the end result of my work, look on the
Ercoupe site under photos by N numbers.I'm near the end under C-FBMJ.
Well, that's about it for now. Let's hear some more sob stories
about spending money on our favorite toys.
