Even though I fixed my carb leak, I still shut the fuel off just because I don't trust Strombergs not to leak again and because it's good to cycle those fuel valves.
The A&P who did my annual had no Coupe experience. I
dropped the plane off on Sunday for Monday annual, and
left it on the tie-downs. Got there at 0800, just as he was
trying to taxi it to the maintenance hangar. It's a hilly airport.
Off at the bottom of a long, long, downslope, I saw him fruitlessly
trying to start the airplane. What a way to start the week!
I walked up behind him and he turned and said 'boy am I glad to
see you!' He'd turned the wing valve off and on several times, and
was becoming exasperated since it had run about long enough for
him to get 50 feet down the taxiway and conked.
Fortunately, he is a good humored sort and a couple of turns around
the pattern ('gotta make sure the engine runs right, you know!) put
it behind him.
