Only if you're Canadian. Theirs is a program that moves the plane to the experimental classification with all the "privileges" related. i.e. You can put the tractor fuel pump back on if you want, if I understand U.S. experimental rules correctly. Are C-90 fuel pumps still $450? It's up to you to figure out the differences in the pump arm. Or a Franklin engine with no paperwork fuss, maybe. Their option would probably make it a no-go to move back to certified -- no one would sign off on it without checking --every-- part number on the plane to be sure it's the certified part. Someone may propose that, but we haven't. Our proposal, as written, just allows a pilot to take classes and a thorough test to prove the ability to do regular simple maintenance plus two or three or four consecutive annuals, followed by a check-up-on-you from an AI. We also propose that an A&P (who wants to) could get AI privileges on a specific type after testing. But the planes stay certified because certified 'mechanics' are doing the maintenance. -- Ed Burkhead Peoria, Ill.
