Just a couple things:
A. Let's separate the two proposals
1. Type specific IA to A&P. This could be fairly easy, as it just
grants specific enhancements to persons already maintenance ready.
With the experience they would have to show, like x-many years in
a shop with signed off hours in-type, I think it could be done.
2. Enhanced maintanance/inspection abilities for the pilots of certain
aircraft. Again, a log/sign off deal.
B. Let's get the current guide lines for the AMT before us.
1. Roughly 18 months (8 hr/day, 5 day/wk) attested to time for Power
plant. It adds up to 3,120 hours.
2. Roughly 18 months (same deal) time for air frame.
3. Six month "discount" for working on both = 30 months instead of 36.
4. After spending the time, you can take the written test. 3 of `em:
a. General, administered with the first one taken of the following
b. Power Plant test
c. Air Frame testWhew! And you thought 20 hours dual/20 hours solo was a hike! Other than that, let's go for it! We have to do something to keep the planes ambulatory. The maintenance persons trained by the military for the "late unpleasentness" in SE Aisa are nearing retirement. By the law of supply and demand, the price for ANY maintenance, much less the annual inspection, has to go up. Personally, I wished I'd logged the time that I have spent behind a screw driver. That could have added up to a bunch since 1975.
