Greg, I bought my first windshield "precut" but it needed to be trimmed quite a bit (use a bench disk sander) so "pre-cut" may not be quite what you are expecting. Let me know how it goes.
After that I bought a $99 bench bandsaw at home depot and came out about even. I would suggest saving the windshield you remove in case you need to use it as a pattern. I also used the bandsaw I bought to make new rear (small) windows as well so I think I got my money out of it. Again I cracked one of the windows by overtightening and had to make another but the stock cost about $4 a blank so it was only my time that I lost. Of course if you let your mechanic do the installation he is responsible if he destroys the purchased blank. While I agree with you about the value of my time, unfortunately I have not found a mechanic that has the same standards as I do. I had them do the first windshield but when it failed I just decided to do it myself. The problem is that I am willing to do the job several times to get it perfect while my mechanic has to make do with doing it once. But then working on my 'Coupe is recreation for me.
