Sounds like you got lucky. I pulled out my last set of microfiche for N99586 and N2679H which I ordered on 5-6-98. The letter included with the fiche states:
"We furnish aircraft records on microfiches at $0.15 per fiche. There is a $2 search fee for each airplane. In addition, if the records are to be certified, there is a $3 chanrge and if a record must be recalled from federal storage there is an additional $2 charge." The letter was initialed by Stephanie Holding, Aircraft Registration Clerk and gave a payment address. The total for my two airplanes was $5.05 A hell of a government deal if you ask me.
