The following may be what you are thinking of.  Note that in fact, the type certificates do list Koppers, Tarver, Brown, South 80, Univair & Flottorp as all being the same prop, but there were many models.  The particular model F200 was not a Flottorp prop according to the stuff I have here, they are not listed as ever having had the TC for that model, so there may be some confusion. The Aeromatic may in fact be fine.  On the computer, I turned up only 2 ADs on the whole mess of props.  Also the TC on the F200 was updated in 1996 and is listed as Kent Tarver PO Box 223 La Canada, CA.  The following is from the coupers archives, not written by me, but by Doug Davis.  Note which prop he is talking about.  Hopefully he won't mind me posting it again:
This is in the form of a Coupers alert!!  If you have and are operating your coupe with any model of
Flotorp Adjustable prop. You would be well advised to remove it immediately!!!  The design is
inherently flawed, and certification was withdrawn by the CAA, the last effective date for operation on
any, I repeat ANY certified aircraft was April of l949.  We just got rid of ours ( the hard way) , which
forced me to do some investigative work.  The results proved the above, and if you take the trouble to
check the TC that was reassigned to Univair in 1988, there are mentions of several adjustables, but
absolutely no mention of flotorps.  That is what spurred me to dig deeper.  Univair     still has the
PMA, but as far as I know the de-certification still exists on certified aircraft.  I've now completed my
obligation, what you do with the information is up to you individually.  Should you rely on your AP
completely?  Thats a question you have to answer for yourself.  But since ours was installed five years
after de-certification by an A&E at a flight training school, and logically there has to be O-haul time
limitations, with no indication in the logs of anything ever being done, one has to wonder........!!  This
information is available to any and all A&P's either through their computers or FAA printed updates.
Annuals are supposed to look at EVERYTHING, but too much is allowed to slip because in the
opinion of the AP the craft will make it to next annual as is.  My question is; how does anyone but God
know how the flying patterns may change in the next 12 months or 100 hrs?
Doug
