I was based at an airport that had trees and buildings around it that
made me pay ATTENTION to the wind flow and swirls around those objects
on windy days.

Visualizing the wind as a fluid and seeing the swirls it makes as it
goes over the trees and drops down to the runway let me predict where
and how much speed to have. I'd pre-advise my passengers to expect me to
drop the nose just as I passed a certain landmark so don't worry when I
do it.

The Coupes are a pretty light wing load plane and DO get buffeted by the
burbles in the wind more than a heavier wing load plane would. It can be
a roller coaster ride on a windy day.

But you can count on the fact that, as you get very close to the ground,
the ground effect under the low wings will force a stabilization that
lets touch-down be nicely controlled.

When it's bumpy/windy I usually don't go fly for fun. But neither do I
cancel a trip because of a measly 30 kt. crosswind at an airport.

And I disagree, you DON'T need all three controls separately when you
land in wind or turbulence. Whatever for?
