Patrick, where will it be based? I have a C-85, but base out of 4500 msl
strip. At 3% power loss per
1,000 ft., I have 73.5 hp. while on the ground. Certainly there are times
when I wish I had more
power. But, I've never seen a problem getting off the ground and climbing
out. At times I've severely
over grossed the poor thing. Myself and one 230 lb. buddy will overdue it
very well thank you. Climb
out will get down to 200-300 fpm on a summer morning. Went out yesterday
in 50 degree weather with a
170 lb buddy and full fuel, and climb out was 500-700 fpm. I will admit,
that I'm glad I have the c-85,
but if you're based out of low altitude field, I don't see you'll have a
real problem. Additionally,
the conversion to a c-85 is relatively painless. Change the prop and some
of the baffles, and rejet the
carb (not always required) and there you are. I've found new wood props
for $1150.00, so for under
$3,000.00 I suspect you'll get your 85 hp when you think you need it.
Either way, enjoy! It's a fine
little bird.
