What? Me respond do that one? Surely you jest!!! Well,----ok!! Sure
doesn't sound like Mags. Coils will sometimes break down when hot and
under
load, But after you landed, checked things out again and took off with
a
warm engine, warm day, this should have happened on take-off or through
climb and it apparently did not.
Sounds like a fuel distribution problem of sorts, but you seem to have
ruled out most of those causes. Vapor lock doesn't sound right either.
You
would have sputtered and misfired, besides even though your oil temp.
might
have showed 180 degrees or so, the ambient air temp inside the cowl in
flight, would be lower than that, and I believe sufficiently so to
eliminate vapor lock. Vapor lock usually happens when the air temp gets
into the 5-600 degree range caused by slow speed, stale air. Even though
your cylinder head temps will reach that mark, the ram air will keep the
cowl much cooler. Bottom line? Beats me, but you didn't mention if it
happened after you throttled back each time. You're right, you may never
know. Sorry, but glad she's "perkin" good again.
