Hi, Doug,

Several CFI friends of mine told our EAA chapter that outdated charts are illegal in an aircraft unless "FOR INSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSES ONLY" is written on them.  They also said it is not required to have any charts in the airplane.  So my information is the same as yours.

I've always been told that it's better to have no charts on board, than to have charts that are outdated, in terms of being "gigged"  by our FAA brothers.  Anyone know for a fact what the regs. are?  I've never worried about charts if all I'm doing is running the pattern, or doing local flying.  I certainly make sure I have what I need and it's current if I'm going somewhere.  But whats the reg. ?
