Jim & Syd,

My Aircoupe came from Saskatchewan (talk about cold!), and they used the
same cold weather kit Syd mentions; I have it on now. My AP said that he
thinks anything under 140 is on the cold side. I'm in Connecticut, and
we've had a warm spell recently, but I had her up on a couple of pretty
chilly mornings, and she was happier with the plate on. Was running at
around 160.

Jim, the engine manufacturers sat 180 degrees is the optimum temperature
for
evaporating moisture in the oil, and for lubrication. I installed a cold
weather kit on my Coupe, consisting of an aluminum plate covering the oil
tank cooling opening, held on with nut plates and screws. I flew quite a
bit today (Wausau to La Crosse to St. Paul and back to Wausau) and the oil

temp averaged about 160 degrees.
