Commie liberals, huh? The absolute WORST time for civil aviation I can remember during the last 30 years were the Ronald Reagan years with Libby Dole as Sec of Trans.
Witch hunts, insane ramp checks, zero tolerance for silly BS, ATC controllers forced to report pilots for VERY minor infractions, FAA employees using IRS type dirty tricks, the government telling AOPA lawyers they shouldn't defend pilots victimized by the FAA, mandatory transponders and encoders on old planes, and on and on. I respect your opinion, but it's a lot more likely that big money from the airline lobby is the threat, and not Ralph Nader. There are simply not enough incidents involving private aircraft to stir up activists, who are far more concerned with real issues like drunk driving. Many so called "conservatives" in congress say they want to stop government bureaucracy and interference in peoples lives till a PAC writes them a fat check.
